Math fact fluency

We have started multiplying multi digit numbers by single digit numbers using area models, number lines, partial products and the standard algorithm.  We are ultimately working towards the most efficient method which is the standard algorithm.  I cannot stress enough the importance of the students being fluent in their math facts.  Some of the kids are struggling because they don’t know them.  4th grade math is hard enough without the struggle of math facts.  I tell the kids it only takes 5 minutes a day to become fluent.  Please make sure your child is practicing at home.  I have added a multiplication fact practice set to my Quizlet account.  This would be a quick and easy way for your child to practice every day.  Thank you for your support at home!  It makes a difference!  🙂

ZEARN
I have given each of the students their sign in and password for Zearn. Remember, students either need to complete 1 lesson or 20 minutes on Zearn per week. They will record their time on their reading log. The class code for Zearn is XK7B4V. You will need this code the first time your child signs on. I like Zearn because it reinforces our math lessons at school.

ACADEMIC NEWS
In math this week,  we learned what division is and how to use partial quotients to solve a problem and check it with the inverse operation.  Please make sure your child is practicing their math facts at home.  From here on out, the math will be very difficult for them if they are not fluent in their multiplication facts.  A fun way to practice is math magician.  http://www.math-play.com/math-magician-multiplication-game/math-magician-multiplication-game.html  Thank you for sharing this website with me Elisha!  In ELA, we found the Topic and Main Ideas of many different texts.  We will continue to work on this throughout the year.  We continued our Science Unit, Human Machine.  Ask your kids how our muscles work and why some people have eye problems.  We also learned why nocturnal animals can see it night.  It’s been a lot of fun!
