Lego Mindstorm

You may have already heard, but Mrs. Bair wrote a grant for our classroom to receive 6 Lego Mindstorms!  She came to me earlier in the year asking what we might like to have to help Mr. Fraas when he comes in teach the kids coding and other educational technology tools.  I asked for Lego Mindstorms.  We received them last week and the kids are very excited!  We have an amazing Principal who really cares about the kids and giving them opportunities to experience technology in a fun, and educational way!  Looking forward to using them in our classroom!

Math fact fluency
We have started multiplying multi digit numbers by single digit numbers using area models, number lines, partial products and the standard algorithm. We are ultimately working towards the most efficient method which is the standard algorithm. I cannot stress enough the importance of the students being fluent in their math facts. Some of the kids are struggling because they don’t know them. 4th grade math is hard enough without the struggle of math facts. I tell the kids it only takes 5 minutes a day to become fluent. Please make sure your child is practicing at home. I have added a multiplication fact practice set to my Quizlet account. This would be a quick and easy way for your child to practice every day. Thank you for your support at home! It makes a difference! 🙂

ZEARN
I have given each of the students their sign in and password for Zearn. Remember, students either need to complete 1 lesson or 20 minutes on Zearn per week. They will record their time on their reading log. The class code for Zearn is XK7B4V. You will need this code the first time your child signs on. I like Zearn because it reinforces our math lessons at school.
