Math fact fluency

We have started multiplying multi digit numbers by single digit numbers using area models, number lines, partial products and the standard algorithm.  We are ultimately working towards the most efficient method which is the standard algorithm.  I cannot stress enough the importance of the students being fluent in their math facts.  Some of the kids are struggling because they don’t know them.  4th grade math is hard enough without the struggle of math facts.  I tell the kids it only takes 5 minutes a day to become fluent.  Please make sure your child is practicing at home.  I have added a multiplication fact practice set to my Quizlet account.  This would be a quick and easy way for your child to practice every day.  Thank you for your support at home!  It makes a difference!  🙂

ZEARN
I have given each of the students their sign in and password for Zearn. Remember, students either need to complete 1 lesson or 20 minutes on Zearn per week. They will record their time on their reading log. The class code for Zearn is XK7B4V. You will need this code the first time your child signs on. I like Zearn because it reinforces our math lessons at school.

ACADEMIC NEWS
In math this week,  we multiplied 2 digit by 2 digit numbers using partial products.   Please make sure your child is practicing their math facts at home.  From here on out, the math will be very difficult for them if they are not fluent in their multiplication facts.  A fun way to practice is math magician.  http://www.math-play.com/math-magician-multiplication-game/math-magician-multiplication-game.html  Thank you for sharing this website with me Elisha!  In ELA, we are finishing up our two Informative Essays on the Louisiana Purchase and how Erosion affects landscape.  I am looking forward to seeing the kids finished products.
